Dumfries House Wedding Photography

Photographing this Asian fusion wedding at Dumfries House was an absolute highlight of the summer. Aized and Haleema had an incredible blend of Scottish and Pakistani traditions brought together in one joyful, colourful celebration. The stunning grounds and elegant interiors of Dumfries House were the perfect setting for a day filled with emotion, energy and most importantly, love.

As a wedding photographer in Scotland, days like this are exactly why I love what I do. My approach is all about capturing the real story as it unfolds - natural moments, big laughs, happy tears, and all the wonderful details in between! Dumfries House offers such a variety of beautiful backdrops, both inside and out, making it an amazing venue for relaxed, authentic photography that reflects the true spirit of your day. If you’re planning your own Asian fusion wedding, or you’re getting married at Dumfries House and looking for a photographer who specialises in natural, vibrant, and relaxed storytelling, I’d love to hear from you. Every wedding here is unique, and it would be a privilege to capture yours in a way that feels effortless, personal, and full of life.

Haleema crafted these incredible pagoda centrepieces for the dinner tables, and printed cute photos of their cat in funny situations instead of having table numbers. The guests adored them! She also loved having her six closest friends by her side as bridesmaids, helping her get ready on the morning of the wedding. Their laughter, excitement, and constant support made the preparations feel relaxed and full of fun.

The groom made a traditional entrance to the ceremony, walking in beneath a decorative chadar held above his head by his female relatives. Surrounded by family and smiling guests, it was a proud and meaningful moment that added real cultural significance to the day. The bride made a beautiful and graceful entrance to the ceremony accompanied by the Itrdaan custom, with bridesmaids walking ahead of her carrying fragrant incense burners. The gentle scent of bakhoor filled the air, adding a sense of warmth and ceremony to the moment. The couple also chose to include the Scottish tradition of handfasting as part of their ceremony, beautifully blending both cultures into the day. With colourful cloths wrapped around their joined hands, they symbolically “tied the knot” in front of their family and friends.

After the ceremony, guests gathered on the steps outside the house armed with confetti cannons, ready to give the newlyweds the warmest welcome. As the couple emerged, the air filled with a colourful explosion of confetti - an absolutely epic moment! Once the excitement settled, everyone enjoyed delicious canapés while the couple spent some relaxed time mingling with their guests. They then gathered for group photographs in front of the fountain and the beautiful flower-strewn walls at the front of the house.

I took the couple into the grounds of Dumfries House for their portraits, so they could wander through the walled gardens and enjoy some quiet moments together. Haleema's vivid red dress looked absolutely incredible against the lush greenery, adding a real pop of colour to the photographs. They especially loved the charming blue pagoda, which made a perfect backdrop, and inside the house was just as impressive, with ornate décor and elegant rooms offering even more beautiful settings for pictures.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful round of speeches before dinner, with plenty of laughter, heartfelt moments, and a few playful stories along the way. After the meal the fun continued with a brilliant Mr and Mrs game, which quickly turned hilariously competitive. It had everyone cheering, teasing and thoroughly entertained!

The evening really came alive thanks to an incredible live drum band who had the dancefloor packed from the first beat. Both the groom’s party and the bride’s party surprised everyone with energetic, choreographed routines that became a huge highlight of the night, getting cheers from every corner of the room. A perfectly timed confetti cannon release added to the excitement, and the celebrations went up another level. It was honestly one of the best dancefloors I’ve ever photographed, and I love Asian fusion weddings for that unbeatable mix of music, colour, and feel-good energy.

It’s always a privilege to photograph weddings at Dumfries House, and days like this remind me why I love working here so much—the beautiful grounds, the elegant interiors, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere create the perfect backdrop for celebrations full of colour and personality. If you’re planning your own wedding at this incredible venue and looking for a photographer who specialises in natural, relaxed pictures that capture real moments and vibrant energy, I’d love to hear from you.
